SCENIC RIVERS LAND TRUST

The Scenic Rivers Land Trust works with landowners and other partners to preserve natural and scenic areas in Anne Arundel County. We accomplish this work through the education of landowners, community leaders, and public officials about voluntary techniques for protecting and preserving land.

We also identify, monitor and protect priority natural areas in the watersheds of the Severn, South, West, Rhode and Patuxent rivers. By accepting, managing and facilitating land protection agreements we permanently conserve land, oversee stewardship of our natural resources and help protect the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay.

Once a year, partnering with the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, we host the Walk for the Woods, a day of guided hikes and public access to the Bacon Ridge Natural Area. It's a wonderful, relaxing day of enjoying our local woods that includes a variety of guided hikes, bird watching, amphibian searches, and naturalist hikes. The event includes "Say My Name" to remember those in the Crownsville Hospital Cemetery.

Walk for the Woods is an event to celebrate families exploring the outdoors, the beautiful Bacon Ridge Natural Area, and the power of land protection to provide quality of life, wildlife habitat, and Chesapeake Bay and River health. Scenic Rivers Land Trust has been promoting the protection of, and public access to, Bacon Ridge Natural Area for over a decade. This 900+ acre area is the centerpiece of the South River Greenway, a rare 4,000+ acre area of intact forest in Anne Arundel County. People who can enjoy and care about this vital forest, we believe, will help with its protection.
