BACK CREEK CONSERVANCY
The Back Creek Conservancy is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised of citizen volunteers dedicated to protecting Back Creek in Annapolis, Maryland. our mission is to improve, conserve, and speak for Annapolis’s Back Creek and its watershed, to make it a healthier place to live, work, and play in harmony with nature.
The Conservancy conducts its work in support of the 2014 Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement and its 2025 targets. The Conservancy’s work is science-driven, with an important role for citizen science.
We seek volunteers to join with us in organizing a program of Best Management Practices to reduce pollution and bring the creek back to a fishable, swimmable state while ensuring that it continues to accommodate the needs of the community.
By 2025, the Back Creek Conservancy envisions a creek we can swim in without fear of illness; a thriving creek with fish, crabs, aquatic vegetation, and other wildlife; a creek where neighbors, marine professionals, and recreational boaters work together for improved water quality; a creek that is resilient to the impacts of climate change; and a creek that makes us proud to be part of America’s Sailing Capital.
Join us to Speak for the Creek!
We speak for the creek by:
Conducting science-based conservation within the framework of the Chesapeake Bay Program.

Implementing best management practices in a transparent manner, including volunteer monitoring and citizen science activities.
Embracing a partnership approach by engaging with similar organizations and stakeholders while involving the community in the stewardship of Back Creek.
Being the voice of Back Creek; communicating with our community at large on the wellness of the creek and how to protect and conserve it.
Monitoring water quality.
